Poppy Delevingne is a busy lady, but in spite of all the demands on her time, ‘Popdog’ greeted every member of the team when she arrived at the latest VERO MODA shoot, and we took the opportunity to score an exclusive interview.
VM: A perfect day in the life of Poppy: what would it be, what would you wear, who would you spend it with?
PD: I’d be naked! And I’d spend it in the garden with my man, obviously!
VM: What is the first thing you ever bought with your own money?
PD: The first thing I ever bought was a ticket to India. Actually that was the reason why I began modelling – to earn enough money to go travelling for six months. I first went to India, to Goa, Kerala and Mumbai, and from there I went to Brazil, where I did Rio. It was such a great trip.
VM: Where did your love for fashion begin and how did it evolve?
PD: First and foremost, growing up as a child I was such a tomboy, always naked or in dungarees; I was never interested in clothes or anything like that. It was only when I began modelling at 18 that I really began enjoying fashion and reading any fashion magazine I could get my hands on, and developing a profound respect for designers, fashion and how to wear it.
VM: How would you describe your personal style?
PD: Well, I never go out of my comfort zone. I never do anything that doesn’t feel natural to me. I wake up in the morning and I know what to put on – it’s my sixth sense, really. Easy-going, fun, not too planned, and it’s important to mix designer and high street and just give it a go.
VM: Do you have any styling advice to share?
PD: First and foremost: don’t think about it too much! Things often have too much thought; outfits seem to be planned out and everything goes a bit stale. And mix: designers, high street, new and old. Just mix. Most important, even though feminists have battered me for it: ask the men in your life what they think. Often your girlfriends will tell you something is hot and cool, but they respond to fashion. Your father, brother or the man in your life will tell you if something actually looks good on you or not. They will be honest!
VM: You live and work in so many places – where do you keep your wardrobe?
PD: My wardrobe is fierce! Actually, my fiancé has given me a room filled with rails in his country home.
